Abstract

|
|
Central venous catheterization is common technique used for rapid mass transfusions during surgeries where in heavy bleeding is expected. However, the invasiveness of this procedure leads to frequent and varied complication. Other factors that may lead to complications are the practitioner’s experience and possible anatomical variations of the patient. Nonetheless, it is rare that a mediastinal hematoma arises during central venous catheter insertion and for atrial fibrillation to develop post-operatively. In this paper, we report the case of rare complications that mediastinal hematoma and post-operative atrial fibrillation were developed by undergoing central venous catheter insertion for lower right lobectomy along with a review of the literature.
